Program Funding
Funding to administer individual UCSF graduate programs comes primarily from those UCSF departments involved with each program and is calculated based on a standardized funding model. Program funds also come from essential training grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Administration of the Chemistry and Chemical Biology Graduate Program benefits from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) of the National Institutes of Health Research Training in Chemistry and Chemical Biology Training Grant.
Student funding comes from a variety of sources.
Outside employment
As a full-time student in the Chemistry and Chemical Biology Graduate Program students are expected to dedicate their time to their research and course work. Outside employment or internships are allowed under certain conditions, for students in good standing. Students may take on part-time employment or internships ( we suggest no more than 10 hours per week), with the written agreement of their PI and the program director. If students wish to take a full time internship they may do so, with the written support of their PI and the program director, but must go on a leave of absence for the quarter. More information about the UCSF internship program can be found at GSICE: Graduate Student Internships for Career Exploration.
Regardless of registration status all students taking on outside work or internships must sign the University of California Patent Agreement before taking any position outside the program while enrolled.
